By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Northbridge School Building Committee has a busy agenda tonight, moving forward with the proposed reconstruction of the Edward Balmer Elementary School after having the town's preferred design solution approved by the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA). The town's two elementary schools will be consolidated into a pre-kindergarten through Grade 5 elementary school at the Balmer school site on Crescent Street. The estimate cost of the project is around 105 million dollars and now, with the MSBA approval, the project becomes eligible for about a 60-percent reimbursement from the State, thus costing the town around 58-million dollars. A property tax debt exclusion to pay for the reconstruction is likely to come up at the Fall Town Meeting with a vote to follow in November. The Northbridge School Building Committee members tonight will review all aspects of the project and get ready for the next Community Forum on March 12th.
