The Franklin School Committee recently discussed a policy for lasting memorials to students who have died. Under the agreement the district would accept memorial contributions other than scholarships if the principal agrees. Member Trevor Clement said he would not support the policy because no one person is more important, more worth remembering than any other.
The policy change came about after a family offered a memorial in remembrance of their daughter who died of leukemia. The original policy prohibited gifts honoring individual students on their achievements.
