Franklin Police Train For The Times

By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Franklin Police Department is acknowledging the need to recognize, and address, recent societal, cultural and technological changes that impact law enforcement responses to those with mental illness, which is why they have pledged to participate and support, “The One Mind Campaign”.  Franklin Police Chief Thomas Lynch says his department is committed to training officers to better serve all members of the community, especially those who struggle with the challenges of mental illness.  “The International Association of Chiefs of Police's One Mind Campaign” seeks to ensure successful interactions between police officers and those with mental health issues to reduce injuries and fatalities, resulting from encounters and create a safer community for everyone.  Chief Lynch says his department is committed to implementing four promising practices over a 12 to 36 month time frame, which includes the training and certifying of 100 percent of Franklin's police officers and dispatchers and he says the goal is to seek innovative ways to building trust with all of whom we are charged with protecting.
