By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Town of Franklin has issued a public health alert to it’s residents noting the Massachusetts Department of Public Health has elevated the risk level for the West Nile Virus, from low to moderate for the entire State. To date there have been 10 human cases of West Nile Virus in Massachusetts and weather conditions are predicted to remain favorable for mosquitoes that carry the Virus for at least the next several weeks. In issuing the Public Health Alert town officials in Franklin say it’s imperative for all individuals, to take those personal precautions to avoid mosquito bites, apply insect repellent when outdoors and be aware of peak mosquito hours around dawn and dusk. They suggest to drain any standing water around your property after yesterday’s rain, mosquitos lay their eggs in standing or stagnant water.
