Hopedale Town Administrator Steve Sette told WMRC that a special town meeting will be called within the next few weeks to finance the engineering and repairs of the sidewalk on the Mill Building side of the Freedom Street Bridge. He said the bridge itself is fine and needs no repair. Water pipes that are affixed to the bridge also need to be replaced.
Sette also said Selectmen Chairman Sandra Biagetti, Tom Wesley and himself met with Draper property owner Phil Shwachman separately to discuss his holdings in town and the need to temporarily reopen Fitzgerald Drive so residents on that side of the bridge would have easier access to Route 16 and Hopedale Street.
Sette said he would expect a special town meeting to be scheduled within the next several weeks. Certainly by the first week of March.
