By MyFM's Jake Archer - The Milford High School girl's basketball team was upset by North Attleboro on Tuesday night 55-45. It was Senior Night for the Rocketeers but they relied on underclassmen to propel them to victory. Junior Julia Feid poured in 17 points to lead all scorers and freshman Amanda Kaiser scored a career-high 14 points (all in the first half) for North.
The seniors weren't left out of the fun though, as Julia Santos dropped 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. On the other side, Milford was missing a few players and working some back from injury slowly, so the game was an uphill battle from the start. The Scarlet Hawks still were able to take a one point lead into the second quarter, but from there North took over. The Rocketeers got hot from 3-point range and built a 29-22 lead as they went into halftime.
North attacked out of the gate in the second half and pushed the lead to 14 over Milford. Gillian Valanzola and Emily Piergustavo kept the Hawks in the game as they clawed back and got to only six down heading into the fourth. Kate Irwin cut that lead in half with a three to open the quarter but North answered right back and went on a run to open the game up a bit. Milford fought to stay in it down the stretch but just couldn't overcome the Rocketeers.
Valanzola ended up with six points, twelve rebounds and nine blocks for the Hawks. Piergustavo added eleven points of her own. Milford falls to 11-8 and will close out the season against Sharon before preparing for the playoffs.
