By MyFM's Rick Michaels - Following the release of The Health Policy Commission report on the estimated cost, of a nurse staffing ballot question the commission’s analysis pegged the cost of question 1, at between $676 and $949 million dollars we’re learning more about the impact a “yes” vote will have on the Milford Regional Medical Center. The President and C-E-O of Milford Regional, Ed Kelly says the consequences would be disastrous resulting in much higher healthcare costs, significant access issues, gridlock in the Emergency Department and the likely closing of community hospitals. Kelly says to implement the nurse to patient staffing ratios statewide it would take an estimated 45-hundred nurses to be implemented in 60-days, which he says creates a demand that’s not achievable. As for the cost Kelly says at Milford Regional, the impact would be five-million dollars annually and without exaggerating this additional cost could mark the end of a hospital that has cared for this community since 1903. Kelly says question “1” which might be thought of as well-intended on the surface will devastate health care in Massachusetts and particularly at Milford Regional.
