The War Memorial Revitalization Committee Will Meet Tonight

By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The War Memorial Revitalization Committee which was organized last fall by Citizens for Milford to advocate for renovations to both Draper Memorial Park and Calzone Memorial Park, will meet tonight, to discuss a proposed action plan. The Committee is currently working with Milford’s Parks and Recreation and members of the Parks Commission to document existing conditions in both parks and identify repairs and upgrades to pursue. The committee has also conducted meetings with Milford’s Town Engineer, Attorney, Administrator, and Veteran's Agent to determine methods of funding and phases of construction. Examples of repairs and upgrades the committee is seeking include lawn restoration and irrigation system repair, repair of brick walkways and stonework and re-scribing of veterans’ names on monuments as needed. The War Memorial Revitilization Committee Chairman Peter Scandone says, “Citizens for Milford has hosted numerous community events in Draper Memorial Park over the last four years, revealing the slow deterioration of this town jewel and following the Board of Selectmen voting unanimously to create the Ad Hoc Committee, the group is moving forward with a plan to ensure that both Draper Memorial Park and Calzone Memorial Park are restored to their original glory and remain places of respect and pride for all future Milfordians.”
