By MyFM's Rick Michaels - Beginning tomorrow 9-1-1 calls from cellphones in Milford will no longer go to the State 9-1-1 system first. The calls will come directly to the dispatch center at the Milford Police Department. Milford Police Chief Tom O’Loughlin says in an emergency every second counts so having 9-1-1 emergency calls come directly to the town's dispatch center, will save time and allow dispatchers to obtain the information necessary for an appropriate response by public safety personnel. Effective tomorrow cellphone calls to 9-1-1, for Police, Fire and EMS services in Milford will no longer be routed through State Police. Chief O’Loughlin is also encouraging Milford residents and businesses to create aprofile on Smart 9-1-1 providing information that may prove to be of critical importance in an emergency. These profiles are strictly confidential and would only be available to the 9-1-1 dispatcher, if you call 9-1-1.
