Mendon selectmen and the police union have signed a three year contract that is good until June of 2018. The new agreement outlines such things as sick and vacation leave, drug and alcohol testing, private details, discipline and other issues. The town pays 75% for HMOs and fifty percent for indemnity plans of insurance and will deduct the cost of health insurance for an employees pay. The new contract gives officers $937 dollars a week for step one. Then it goes to $1,236 for step five in the year 2018. A sergeant's pay for step one now is $1,409 and for a lieutenant it's $1,663 for the first step. Public safety director Ernie Horn's salary is 122,500 dollars. He runs both the fire and police department.
