Algonquin Gas Transmission will be performing gas pipeline maintenance work at it's Valve Site in Mendon this week. Beginning today, work will require small amounts of odorized natural gas to be released into the air. The Valve Site is off of Bates Street, in the area of Thayer Street in Mendon Algonquin personnel will be on-site during the work that needs to be done. It’s also anticipated that additional intermittent releases of odorized natural gas, will be needed on Friday and/or Saturday. Portable de-odorizing equipment and monitors will constantly measure the levels of natural gas with every effort being made to minimize the amount of gas released and limit the noise associated with this work. If you smell gas in the general vicinity of Bates and Thayer Streets there’s no danger to you or your property Mendon Police and Fire are aware of the activities. Again this is a planned, controlled release and does not pose a safety risk to the public. If you have any questions you can call Algonquin’s operation office or call Enbridge Gas.
