By MyFM's Rick Michaels - An inspection of the natural gas pipeline system in Bellingham, will begin today and is expected to be completed by the end of the week. Enbridge says the inspection mandated by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safety and Maintenance regulations requires diversion of natural gas, through what is called a designed flare system. The flaring will be located on property near Robbins Road, off of Depot Street in Bellingham, and may be visible for a distance. Enbridge says the gas flaring is a safe procedure it will be closely monitored and if you’re in that vicinity and you see the flare, hear noise or smell natural gas there’s no cause for alarm. Representatives of the company will remain on site to inspect this portion of the Alconquin natural gas pipeline.
