Bellingham Board Of Selectmen To Conduct Tour Of Public Works Tonight

By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Bellingham Board of Selectmen will conduct a tour of the Department of Public Works facility tonight prior to it's regularly scheduled meeting, which includes the continuation of a public hearing, on a DPW proposal, to implement a new residential irrigation backflow device test policy and procedure. DPW Director Don DiMartino says the town has about 285 residents with irrigation systems, that must have this device and he feels they should be tested annually to ensure it’s working properly. DiMartino says if these devices fail they could cause serious problems to the water quality of the entire town of Bellingham’s drinking water system. The yearly test of these irrigation systems would need approval from Bellingham Selectmen and would be done by the DPW at no charge to residents, and DiMartino says most of these tests can be done without anyone being home, unless the irrigation system is surrounded by a fence or obstructed in some way.
