On Friday, May 1 and Tuesday, May 5, the Milford Board of Health delivered three pickup truck loads of food to the Daily Bread Food Pantry. Big Y and Stop and Shop both generously donated nonperishable items to help stock the shelves. Nationally, food banks are experiencing increased demand as many workers have been laid off and furloughed due to economic slowdown related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Families who were previously financially stable and had plenty of food are facing food insecurity for the first time, accessing donated food through local pantries and kitchens. The Board of Health spoke to partners at the Daily Bread, who said the same has been true here. Working quickly, the Board of Health solicited donations from our town’s supermarkets to help support families needing food and the local pantry supplying these needs.
