By MyFM's Rick Michaels - (photo courtesy of sporting News) Former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, remains hospitalized following surgery for a gunshot wound after being ambushed by a man on a motorcycle, while sitting in a bar in his native Dominican Republic. Dominican National Police say Ortiz was at the Dial Bar and Lounge in Santo Domingo around 8:50 p.m. last night, when a gunman approached from behind and shot him at close range. Ortiz was taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery, and his condition was stable. Ortiz is believed to be out of danger and there wasn't any collateral damage, meaning there was no damage to major organs. At this time authorities do not have any idea why this person shot Big Papi who was shot in his lower back/abdominal area he’s expected to make a full recovery. The gunman was captured and was beaten by a crowd of people at the bar and police are waiting until the man under goes treatment for his injuries before having a chance to question him. Investigators say several people have been arrested, including the gunman as they are trying to determine whether Ortiz was the intended target, there were two other people who were wounded including a Dominican TV host and a third unidentified person. The Dial Bar and Lounge is located in Santo Domingo, in an area where there is a lot of dance clubs and bars.
