Developing Story - Local Charity Not What it Seemed to Be

A few months ago WMRC was contacted by a local charity that was raising money for a local child suffering from Leukemia as well as an anonomous family who was dealing with a similar situation.  Fund raising events were planned by A 2nd Chance, a local organization who claimed to raise money to help those who need "a second chance" in life.  The organization's director, Jose Mangual, contacted WMRC's Ray Auger to assist in promoting the fund raising events on his radio show, Living For The Weekend, one at Milford Town Park and the other in Bellingham.  During one of their two appearances on the show, Ray was introduced to Dawn Costa, the grandmother of Brooklynn, the young child that the benefit was to be held for.  Dawn told her story and the event happened with much success.  Money was raised for Brooklynn's medical expenses.  Then the family recieved shocking news... Jose Mangual's offices were raided and he was arrested on a number of alleged charges including fraud.  Jose had walked away with all of Brooklynn's money.

This story is still developing but Milford Police have confirmed that A 2nd Chance founder Jose Mangual was indeed arrested last week on a default warrant for four arrests. Two in Littleton and two in Westford. Those arrests include two counts of larceny, driving with a suspended license and altering a false identity. Authorities are still investigating Jose's wrong-doings in connection to the A 2nd Chance fraud claims.  Ed Thompspn will have more information in the coming days.  But we spoke with Brooklynn's grandmother, Dawn, and got her side of this devistating and unfortunate story...

Brooklynn has a GoFundMe page that is run by the family if you care to give.  Thank you.
