By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Franklin School Committee will be asked tonight to approve a proposed budget for the next school year which is reflecting just over a six percent increase in spending, over the current Fiscal Year. The
Superintendent of Schools in Franklin, Sara Ahearn will recommend to School Committee members tonight that they approve the Fiscal Year 2021 school budget which totals just under, $68.8 million dollars. Ahearn says this budget includes funding for both current services, as well as resources to support critical needs in several areas. The administration is also revealing a total of $1.2 million dollars, of articulated needs which will continue to go unmet.The Franklin School Committee was initially given the budget proposal on March 10th a public hearing was held two-weeks ago a few lines in the budget will be reviewed further tonight after which, a vote may come on the spending package for the next school year. On the subject of schooling with classrooms closed for the remainder of this school year, the School Committee will be updated on and discuss all things relevant to the closing of schools and remote learning.
