By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Franklin Town Council’s Economic Development Subcommittee will meet tonight, to discuss once again a proposal for the town to develop and institute a Plastic Bag Ban. The subcommittee which is made up of four town councilors has discussed the idea in previous meetings hearing from residents, both for and some questioning the implementation of a plastic bag prohibition bylaw. A group of students at Franklin High School brought the issue to light last year pointing to the need for a ban, in lieu of recycling with some residents saying there are programs promoting the recycling of plastic bags. Another issue brought up was the State is considering a bill banning plastic bags which would make Franklin’s ban null and void. Town Councilor Matthew Kelly requested State Representative Jeffrey Roy of Franklin be invited to tonight’s meeting to discuss where the State is on any type of state wide plastic bag ban.
