Franklin Town Council To Vote On School Budget Tonight.

By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Franklin Town Council will discuss the Fiscal Year 2020 budget tonight, taking a look at the proposed school spending package and the fiscal challenges the town is facing moving forward and that could include the need for an override in Fiscal Year 2021. With final revenues still unknown Town Administrator Jeff Nutting says a “level service” municipal and school budget would likely require an additional two-million dollars in revenue. The recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools Sara Ahearn, puts the next Franklin School budget at $66.8 million, almost a 5.7 percent increase over the current budget. Nutting says State Aid numbers are not very good and the town could lose up to a million dollars combine that with virtually every department in town, seeing increased costs and a substantial demand for services means Franklin might need to consider an override, in the amount of between $4 and $5 million for Fiscal Year 2021, to properly fund school and municipal services.
