Franklin Town Council Will Discuss How To Divide Free Cash

By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Franklin Town Council will deal with a few budget transfers when the Council meets tonight, along with a discussion on how to appropriate, almost $700,000 in free cash. A resolution before town councilors would move $53,000 of surplus funds saved over the last year, from the employees benefits expense most of that going to cover unexpected costs in the Fire Department budget. Franklin Town Administrator Jamie Hellen says with the winter snow season over the town has $692,000 in free cash, he’s recommending town councilors consider using $448,000 for roads and infrastructure, with the town having a $40 million backlog of road work.v Hellen says two appropriations of $100,000 could be used for Public Safety Communications Infrastructure, to continue improvements on radio communications throughout the town…and for a one-time request of money for the wage settlement account, to pay for anticipated contractual obligations in the next six months. The Franklin Town Council will also vote to officially approve the authorization of the Town Administrator to negotiate and execute any tax agreements with private solar developers.
