By MyFM's Rick Michaels - Franklin Town Councilors unanimously deciding last night to approve a resolution, exempting all positions in the Town's Fire Department from civil service laws and voting in favor of the ratification of the contract for the Franklin Permanent Firefighter Association. The votes came following an executive session with Franklin Town Administrator Jamie Hellen referring to exempting all firefighting positions from Civil Service Law as a historic day for the town of Franklin. The action taken last night means it must now be enacted by the House and Senate. The Council also agreed with the Economic Development Sub Committee unanimously approving sending three zoning by law amendments to the Planning Board for their consideration and public hearings. One bylaw amendment would further restrict where large scale ground-mounted Solar Energy Systems can locate in town this would have no impact on home or business solar projects. The other two bylaw amendments dealt with map changes as Franklin is in the process of eliminating by rezoning parcels of land that are split into two different residential or commercial zones.
