On Monday July 26, 2021 at approximately 10:20 pm Milford Police received reports of a hooded male who was smashing gas pumps at Granite Gulf located at 93 Cedar Street. A second caller reported witnessing a male smashing gas pumps at the Mobil Station located at 134 Cedar Street. Officers did not observe any damage at Gulf but immediately observed damage at the Mobil Station. Most of the gas pumps were severely damaged with glass shattered and several gas holsters were found on the ground. Despite a lengthy investigation, no one was located in the area.
On Wednesday July 28, 2021, Milford Police Officers responded to the Fairfield Inn & Suites located at 1 Fortune Boulevard for an unrelated medical call. Alert patrol officers encountered an unknown male fitting the description of the suspect in the rear of the hotel and spoke with him briefly. Upon concluding the encounter, the male returned to his hotel room without incident. Patrol Officers recognized the male as fitting the description of the male seen on video on 7/26/2021 and contacted Milford Police Detectives for assistance. Investigators located video footage of the unidentified male entering the hotel on 7/26/2021 wearing the distinctive sweatshirt that the suspect wore during the initial offense and were able to positively identify him as being the male involved in the incident. The male was identified as Marshall Fain on Charlotte, NC, who was staying at the Fairfield Inn. Fain was located and placed under arrest, then transported back to the Milford Police Department. Fain will be charged with the following offense:
