ByMyFM's Rick Michaels - Governor Charlie Baker's bill regulating college closures in Massachusetts is one of 10 pieces of legislation before the Higher Education Committee. The House co-chair of the Committee is State Representative Jeffrey Roy of Franklin, who told the Franklin Town Council last week, this is an area the committee will be focusing on beginning this morning,  a bill that would require any college or university in Massachusetts to notify the Board of Higher Education if it is facing financial challenges that could jeopardize its ability to serve its current and admitted students. Roy citing the situation at Mount Ida College in Newton, says the school would also need to submit for state approval a contingency plan including provisions for advance notice to students and staff and arrangements for students to complete their studies.
