By MyFM's Rick Michaels - Hopedale Town officials are beginning the process of trying to balance the budget after a tax override to maintain town services and personnel failed at the polls earlier this month. At this week’s Board of Selectmen’s meeting, Town Administrator Diane Schindler says time is short to come up with the needed cuts to balance the budget. Department heads will have to figure out how to implement, if they’re asked for instance, to trim their budgets by 5-7 percent. Schindler says the Finance Committee will be meeting to discuss anticipated budget moves and the Board of Selectmen may hold a special meeting Monday night as voters will need to approve a new budget once a proposal is worked out at the Town Meeting on October 24th. Schindler says the Board of Health will meet tonight and on the agenda is a discussion with E.L. Harvey to try and reduce the cost of the annual trash pick-up contract which would impact current trash services in Hopedale.
