Hopedale Shooting Victim Held Without Bail

By MyFM's Rick Michaels - A Hopedale man who was shot twice by a SWAT team after negotiations to end a stand off at his home last month broke down will remain in custody without bail, pending a dangerousness hearing to be held later this month. 61-year old Bennett Hubbard of 16 Larkin Lane was arraigned yesterday at the U-Mass Memorial Medical Center where he’s recovering from his injuries, from being shot twice in the stomach. Hopedale Police responding to Hubbard's residence around 8:45 Friday night April 19th for a report of an intoxicated man armed with a knife and making threats to harm himself and others which led to officers encountering a visibly distraught Hubbard behaving in a threatening manner to stab the officers. Two women had to be rescued from the second floor of the home, where they had barricaded themselves in a bedroom until Hopedale Firefighters were able to put up a ladder and rescue the women, while police dealt with Hubbard who will undergo a competency evaluation prior to his dangerousness hearing scheduled at the end of the month.
