By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The weekly drought monitor report is released every Thursday and yesterday’s numbers shows 92% of the state falls into one of three drought categories and almost half of that number are in a severe drought. The entire MyFM listening area falls into the severe drought category with most every town imposing water restrictions and water shortages are common. A few towns including Hopkinton, Upton and Northbridge are split between a severe drought and a moderate drought, which covers about 34% of the state. The lack of rain continues with no rain event expected until next month as only the possibility of scattered showers remain in the extended forecast through next Wednesday. To the immediate south of the MyFM listening area many communities are in an extreme drought which totals about 10% of the State leading to widespread water shortages or restrictions and major crop/pasture losses.
