Local Things To Do on Your Summer Vacation

There's plenty to do in the local area this summer (and year round).  You just need to know where to look!  Town websites are a good place to start but not all are updated regularly.  Googling "things to do" can get you started on the right path but it can be very time consuming.  We have put together, for your convenience, a comprehensive, family-friendly list of great things to do in the local area. Most for FREE! Now get off the couch and get exploring!

Libraries are chock full of events for kids of all ages.  From "Mommy and Me" readings to book discussions to art classes.

Local Music

Of course live and local music can be heard echoing through our local parks, restaurants and pubs on any given day.  Get out and support our local musicians.  There are various venues offering a wide range of genres for all ages.

Most towns offer a "Concert in the Park" series throughout the summer.  The best thing is that most never conflict as they fall on different days of the week.  For a that list keep an eye on our Local Music section on our website.  We are proud to cohost a Family Night at the Bandstand at Milford Town Park with Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra.  Get the schedule HERE!

For the adults, the local area offer something for everyone.  Acoustic, rock, pop, country, covers, originals.  Up to a dozen local choices on Friday and Saturday nights.  And some venues offer live music on the off nights as well!  Each week, WMRC posts a comprehensive calendar of who is playing where locally and where your favorite local bands are playing elsewhere.  It's call The Local Lowdown.  Check back regularly for update.  You can also "like" The Local Lowdown on Facebook.

Something new to the area is the Young Musicians Showcase at Uber Cafe and Music House in Mendon.  Every Friday from 5pm to 8pm, local, under 21 musicians are invited to show off their skills on Uber's stage.  Recent Milford High School graduate Cam Knopp hosts.  Come back Saturday at the same time for more acoustic music by some of the areas best talent.  Uber is home to delicious food, tasty coffee, espresso and teas, and now live music!

Just about 20 miles to our west lies one of the best outdoor music pavillions in the area.  Indian Ranch in Webster is worth the ride to see some great national acts along with local bands opening for them.

Many towns honor their historical revelance with the help of local citizens who dedicate themselves to educating others about the past will preserving their history.  Many historical societies offer tours, events and happenings.  Some towns even have their very own museums.
