By MyFM's Rick Michaels - In honor and celebration of America’s State Parks, Massachusetts will once again take part in the First Day Hikes Initiative on Tuesday, with the State Park in Uxbridge joining the celebration. The initiative offers residents the opportunity to attend guided hikes throughout the State Parks system, on New Year’s Day. The idea started in 1992 at the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton ten-years later, all 50 State Park systems have joined together and it has become the signature nationwide program for the National Association of State Parks. On Tuesday in Uxbridge, across the State and the country visitors will be able to experience unique and cultural treasures, including guided hikes to see the beauty of the Commonwealth’s natural landscapes. In Uxbridge the Blackstone River and Canal Heritage Park on Oak Street will offer a guided hike if interested, meet at the River Bend Farm Visitor Center starting at 12:30 New Year’s Day. The hike begins at one o’clock.
