By MyFM's Rick Michaels - Medway Police say a senior resident of the town recently received a phone call she thought was from the Police Department. Instead it was a scam with the person identifying herself as a representative from “Medicare”. The scammer said she was calling to review the senior's “Medicare” information. The resident did not fall for the scam and provided Medway Police with useful information. The Caller ID listed the phone number’s origination as the Medway Police Department. It’s becoming easier for scammers to spoof a phone number to make it seem legitimate. Medway Police say never rely on Caller ID for the legitimacy of a caller and never give out personal information from an unsolicited phone call and if you’re unsure about a call, hang up and call police for advice. You can go to Medicare.gov for more information about protecting your information and Medicare is issuing new Medicare numbers instead of using your social security number.
