Milford Hosts COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics For Kids

In an effort to get children ages 5 to 11 years vaccinated against the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Milford Board of Health hosted two COVID-19 vaccination clinics on Tuesday, November 9th and on Wednesday, November 10th at the Woodland Elementary School from 3:45pm to 6:00pm.

The Board of Health is grateful to their partners at Milford Public Schools, Milford Fire and Police Departments, and more to be able to host these clinics.

On Tuesday, 214 children received their first dose of the Pfizer- BioNTech vaccine, and on Wednesday 251 children received their first dose of the vaccine.

The clinics come after the Center for Disease Control and Prevention Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices unanimously voted to recommend the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for younger children ages 5 years to 11 years. Two doses are required three weeks apart for full vaccination.

The second dose of the vaccine will be offered during clinics 3 weeks after the first dose clinics (November 30 and December 1). Children who get their first dose before Thanksgiving will be fully protected by the vaccine by the holiday season.

Since the COVID-19 vaccine is now available to nearly all school-aged children, the Board of Health is pleased to be able to offer clinics, increasing access to safe and effective protection for our young residents from this virus. This is a big step toward immunity against the virus that causes COVID-19.
