From the Milford Veterans Advisory Council...
8am free breakfast for Veterans at the Italian Vets 4 Hayward Field followed at 9 am by the traditional Memorial Day Ceremony at the Italian American Veterans Memorial.
10am in lieu of the traditional Memorial Day Parade there will be a Memorial celebration at Calzone Park (the Doughboy Statue) to honor all the men and women from of Milford that have sacrificed so much and are no longer physically with us but spiritually will always be right alongside us.
Later that afternoon there will be a flag retirement ceremony at the Italian Vets to respectfully retire old worn and tattered flags. If you have flags that are in disrepair that need to be retired please either bring them with you or drop them off at the Italian Vets prior to Memorial Day.
As always the public is invited and encouraged to attend any and all of the above ceremonies.
As we come out of the mandated Covid restrictions it is important for us to try to get back to normal as best we can. Although we still cannot have the traditional Memorial Day Parade we can gather together outside to pay our respects to family and friends who served and protected us and now preside over us from up above. It is important for us to remember, recognize, and honor these men and women. Bring your children and encourage them to ask questions, there will be plenty of local Veterans from around town that would be more than happy to answer any questions they or you may have about some of their experiences. I hope the Citizens of Milford can come and join us in our celebration of the lives of the Veterans that are no longer with us. Remember it was because of their efforts on your behalf that made it possible to be free today.
We would also like to offer a special invitation to the parents, children and teachers of the Brookside Elementary School for their heart warming sentiments expressed in a personal letter to the Veterans of Milford. Please come and let us thank you in person.
