New health insurance rates have been negotiated by the Milford Insurance Advisory Committee lead by temporary treasurer Kelly Capece. The rates are for health, dental and life insurance. Capece said Harvard Pilgrim wanted an increase of 24.5 percent. She said due to the diligent work of the committee, the town retained a more reasonable increase by changing carriers and renewing the relationship with Blue Cross which resulted in an increase of 7.3 percent. The rate received includes only eight months of claims experience but it appears the town continues to have a high utilization rate with 11 claims in the HMO group that totals $989 thousand. Delta Dental will show no increase and the life insurance overall hike is 13.5 percent. It's the first increase from the carrier since 2009. The new rates that go into effect May 1st will be reviewed by selectmen tonight and approved.
