By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Milford Special Town Meeting gets underway tonight with 36-articles on the warrant, to be voted on by Town Meeting members. The newly formed Town Meeting Study and Improvement Committee is sponsoring six articles, mostly dealing with procedural matters however Article 22 would authorize the Board of Selectmen to petition the Legislature to allow current Town Meeting members to become candidates for re-election, by simply giving written notice instead of filing nomination papers. There are two articles requesting the purchase of two new trucks, sponsored by the Highway Department totaling 370 thousand dollars. Another article involving a major purchase requested by Milford Fire Chief Bill Touhey a new Fire Engine will be bypassed this year and brought back for consideration next year. Also Article 11 will see if the town will amend the zoning by laws, to allow for self-service gas stations in Milford. The Special Town Meeting begins at seven o’clock tonight in the upper town hall.
