By Rick Michaels - Milford Town Meeting members will head to the High School tonight, to deal with 14-articles on the
Annual Town Meeting Warrant and will be looking at a Fiscal Year 2021 Budget proposal, that comes in at just over $111 million. The School Department Budget will take up about half of that money, with the Milford Finance Committee recommending approval of a 4.2% increase, for a total of just over $54.3 million. The $13.2 million budget for Public Safety will represent about a 3.3% increase, with both Police and Fire indicating the need for additional funding, citing possible mandated training for Police and new minimum manning requirements for Firefighters. The Fincom recommends $180,000 for Article 9 to be added to the Woodland School Building Committee account this includes a contingency for legal fees, as the town is in litigation over items in the buildings’ construction. Article 12 will be voted on to decide if the town should spend the money to demolish and remove the run-down property at 72 Depot Street,
setting aside possibly $140,000 and putting a lien on the property. The quorum for tonight has been reduced by half, of the total number of Town Meeting members who will gather at Milford High School for the Annual Town Meeting, beginning at seven o’clock.
