Mr. James R. Wood, 77, of Milford
  

Mr. James R. Wood, 77, of Milford MA and formerly of Hopedale MA died Thursday (January 11, 2023) at the Milford Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth M. (Nolan) Wood.
 
Jim was born in Framingham MA, the son of the late Albert F. Wood and the late Gertrude M. (Dupre) Wood. He attended Hopedale public schools, graduating from Hopedale High School, Class of 1963. He was also a graduate of Norwich University, Class of 1967 and attained his Master’s Degree from Worcester State University in 2003.
 
Jim was a dedicated elementary school teacher at the former Milford Catholic Elementary School from 1967 to 2010. He recently moved to Milford MA and had previously resided in Hopedale MA, Medway MA, Bellingham MA and Cumberland RI.
 
Jim loved tending to his garden & watching the hummingbirds throughout the summer. He also enjoyed playing cards; cooking for his family & friends; and watching the Boston Red Sox & New England Patriots.
 
Along with his love of being a school teacher, he loved being a coach for children, coaching Pop Warner League Football in Bellingham MA; girls soccer & softball in Bellingham MA and girls soft ball at Bellingham High School.
 
Along with his beloved wife of fifty-five years, he is survived by his daughter: Martha Wood and her partner Cindy Koscinski whom he called his “Buddy” of Ludlow MA; his sister-in-law: Kathy Visone and her husband Joseph of Mendon MA; his brother-in-law: John Nolan and his wife Carol of Lynn MA; his niece: Christine Melesky and her husband Michael Melesky; his nephew: Michael Visone of Mendon MA; his niece: Meghan Quigley and her husband Paul Quigley of Marblehead MA; his grandnephew: Danny Melesky of Uxbridge MA and his grandniece: Clara Quigley of Marblehead MA.
 
His funeral will be held Tuesday (January 17th) at 11am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 NOON at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in Hopedale Village Cemetery in Hopedale MA. Visiting hours will be held Monday (January 16th) from 5pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home.
