Northbridge Annual Town Election Being Held Today
By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Northbridge Annual Town Election will be taking place today, with residents going to the polls to hopefully fill a few town positions with no candidates on the ballot and also vote on a ballot question, dealing with money for the new Fire Station building project. There are no contested races on the ballot, but there’s a need to fill a number of town positions, including two seats on the School Committee and a seat on the Planning Board, with no candidates on the ballot. The ballot question is asking Northbridge residents to allow the town, to exempt from the provisions of Proposition 2 ½ , to pay for the bond issued in order to pay for the costs for engineering, design and construction of a new Fire Station. The cost of building the Town of Northbridge’s first ever Fire Station is being pegged at somewhere around $19 million dollars and puts the cost to taxpayers depending on the value of your home the interest rate the town secures and the number of years to pay the loan back in the neighborhood of an additional $200 a year in property taxes. The new location on Providence Road (Route 122), will improve the overall response time for firefighting calls. Voters today will head to Northbridge High School to cast their ballots, from 7am-8pm
