By MyFM's Rick Michaels - Northbridge residents who want to know more about the Town's Fire Station Building Project can head to the town website for more information, to learn about the feasibility study underway to identify the needs and most efficient and economical solutions to secure the safety of all residents. At this time the Northbridge Fire Stations don’t meet the needs of the 21st Century Fire Department the two stations were originally constructed for the Whitin Machine Works and the other to protect the Rockdale Mill. Both stations are nearing the end of their functional times there are signs of structural damage and there’s electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems that don’t meet current codes. The current feasibility study is reviewing the conditions of the existing fire stations will analyze potential sites for a new facility develop a space needs program for the current and future assets and operations of the department and come up with designs and probable cost for the construction of a new station. The Northbridge Fire Department consists of 17 career firefighter/paramedics and 17 on call firefighters, who responded to almost 32 hundred calls in 2018.
