On May 4, 2019 local musicians banded together to raise $13,600 for the Franklin Food Pantry at The Black Box in Franklin, MA. Co-organizer Bill Donovan explains why he and co-organizer Ray Auger decided to start this annual event four years ago. “The Franklin Food Pantry does not receive funds from the state or town. They rely ultimately on us, the community, to help keep the shelves full.”
Auger and Donovan have kept the format for the night simple throughout the four years. Raffles, cash bar and four great local bands. A recipe for success as the previous years have proven. “We had a lot of amazing raffle items donated by local businesses and individuals this year for our regular raffle, “Super Raffle” and silent auction. A bulk of the money raised comes right from the raffles so we are grateful to all who donated, explains Raffle Coordinator Deirdre Donovan.
With a total of $10, 000 raised in 2018, and less tickets sold this year, the organizers knew that they had their work cut out for them. “It just came together,” said Auger. “The generosity of this community shined bright. We sold more raffle tickets, we had more sponsors come forward this year and people were just in a giving mood. Topping last year really surprised us. Thank you to everyone who contributed”.
The night’s musical lineup has also been consistent through the years and second to none with performances by We’re Going Streaking, Charity Case, Karate Show and South Street Six, all musicians with ties to the Greater Franklin area and donating their time and talents for the cause. “What a night! We never get out and we danced all night! And on top of that, we helped to raise over $13,000”, exclaimed one happy guest at the end of the night.
The Fourth Annual Party For The Pantry was made possible, in part, by generous sponsorships from Middlesex Savings Bank, Dean College, Dean Bank, Elemen-Tree House, Colonial Fence Company, Fenton Financial Group, Franklin Matters, Better Living Real Estate, Mint Dental of Franklin, Sally’s Alley, Nerds To Go and Franklin Veterinary Clinic.
