State Legislature To Extend Formal Sessions

By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The House and Senate has established six major conference committees, to develop consensus legislation and Senate President Karen Spilka of Ashland, says extending formal sessions past July 31st, gives these lawmakers more time to work out a compromise. Each Conference Committee includes three Senators and three Representatives and right now Spilka says they’re working on bills dealing with policing accountability, health care, economic development and housing, transportation spending, climate change and information technology Spilka says in these unprecedented times, she’s also proud of the way the Senate and House has dealt with work on the State Budget, even though there’s a lack of a budget for Fiscal Year 2021 saying it’s important to have more solid financial numbers, especially from the Federal Government, before finalizing the next State Budget.
