By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Franklin Water Department is notifying all residents, that a water sample collected on Tuesday, from the Grove Street #3 Well has tested positive for E.Coli which is a fecal indicator. The Well has not been used since Tuesday and remains offline keep in mind, the samples collected in the distribution system, did NOT detect any fecal contaminants. E.Coli is a fecal indicator fecal indicators are used to detect ground water sources that may be susceptible to fecal contamination which may
contain harmful viruses or bacteria. The Franklin Water Department says the water delivered to your taps through the distribution system is disinfected with chlorine to kill viruses and bacteria including E.Coli. Repeat testing an evaluating continues to determine if additional corrective actions are necessary to reduce the risk of potential fecal contamination in the drinking water supply. This is not an emergency you do not need to boil your water or take other actions at this time the Franklin Water Department is in contact with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection which will evaluate the effectiveness of the steps being taken and determine if any further action is required.
