Happy Friday everyone. As we kick off our weekend of live and local music let’s remember some important advice. Everybody have fun tonight… everybody Wang Chung tonight.
Been a great week for local music and a great weekend to come… here’s The Gist.
If We Go at All has found a spot next to We Were Astronauts in your local bar’s jukebox. Way to go! (If they go at all, of course). Come by Metal Wednesdays at the Tradesman sometime. I’m sure Tommy O’Toole will play a song or two for you. (PS... photo courtesy of Tommy "He Ain't no Tim Rice" O'Toole)
Tim Galvin released a new song this past week through a new project called Side Traxx. The new tune answers the question “what are the two most awesomest things in the world?”
Joe Sabourin became the face of the Newport BridgeFest this past week. Better than a milk carton for sure! Congrats Joe! He bounced back and forth throughout the week for the local music festival that bridges the Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals. See Joe and his band My Mother’s Moustache at The Homegrown Original Music Showcase at Central on the 14th.
Party for the Pantry is doing well. Thanks to Tigerlily, Red Light Anxiety and Matt Zajac for hosting drop off locations so far. Jenn Tefft will host one tonight at Pepperoncini’s as well as Tony Soul at The T. After the Labor Day Bash we’ll be donating the cans and a nice monetary donation to the Daily Bread Food Pantry.
The Road Dawgs are playing on Yawkey Way tonight before the game! That’s pretty cool!
Renovations have begun on the bathrooms at The T. Thank god!
Tim Rice is opening his studio Saturday. Check out all the great local music photos he has AND for $20 you can get 3 "light bulb" shots. They make great promo or profile shots. Check his page out for details.
The Astronauts are taking over RI. They spent the week all over WBRU and tonight they rock Waterplace Park in Providence. Then they jet off the New Hampshire Saturday and West Springfield on Sunday. The weekend trifecta of rock n roll shows!
That’s about it! Check out the Lowdown in Local Music page at WMRC Daily News.com for shows this weekend. Justin and I are at PJ’s on Saturday. Whiskey Church has two shows… tonight at JJ’s and tomorrow night at Hawk’s Nest. Newbie Fran Fenton is at Pepps Saturday. Justin and I “discovered” him at the Sand Dollar earlier this summer.
And that’s The Gist. Have fun this weekend kids.
