The Hopkinton School Committee Meets Tonight

By MyFM;s Rick Michaels - The Hopkinton School Committee meets tonight and will begin the year discussing a presentation of the proposed Fiscal Year 2020 budget. Superintendent of Schools Doctor Carol Cavanaugh says increased enrollment, growing transportation needs, opening a new building and unfunded mandates, are among the challenges the district will be facing moving forward. Cavanaugh says in creating the next school spending package the goal is to keep Hopkinton Schools among the best in  the state adding teachers and support staff to accommodate increases in student population, continue to build technology programming and maintaining Hopkinton’s exceptional academic, art, music and athletic programs. School Committee members will be looking at a proposed Fiscal Year 2020 budget, reflecting about a six-point-seven percent increase from the current budget totaling just over $48 million dollars, a spending hike of about three-million dollars.
