By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Milford Board of Selectmen has appointed a person to fill the position of Interim Police Chief, as the search process is underway to find a permanent replacement for Milford Police Chief Tom O’Loughlin, whose contract is up at the end of June. By a 2-1 vote last night Chairman Bill Buckley and Selectman Will Kingkade, appointed Mike Pighetti to serve as Interim Police Chief, despite the concerns and opposition from Selectman Mike Walsh. Pighetti retired more than six-years ago from the Milford Police Department with Selectman Kingkade saying he would not seek the permanent position and would bring a new perspective. Selectman Walsh cast the dissenting vote saying the reason the town created and paid for a Deputy Police Chief was to have someone in place to step in and take over, if the need arises. He believes Deputy Police Chief Jim Falvey should be in that position. The Milford Police page saying what they feel is an illegal appointment, will turn the department upside down and cause division, low morale and uncertainty among the rank and file. Buckley and Kingkade also voted to oust the well-liked and 18-year current Police Chief… without giving residents of Milford a reason forthat decision.
