The Town Of Northbridge Is Exploring The Idea Of Creating A Local Historic District Within The Village Of Whitinsville

By MyFm's Rick Michaels - The Town of Northbridge is exploring the idea of creating a Local Historic District within the village of Whitinsville and is asking residents to attend a public forum and property owners’ meeting next month, to discuss and review justifications for the selection of properties to be included in the district. A study committee was established to study and recommend properties for the proposed Whitinsville Local Historic District aimed at revealing the story of how the Industrial Revolution transformed Whitinsville, into one of New England’s leading mill villages, from the late 1700’s to the mid 1900’s. The committee has identified 12 properties located at the main crossroads of Whitinsville selected to represent the growth of the village, originally called South Northbridge renamed Whitinsville in 1835. Residents will be asked to complete a brief survey to gauge the public’s thoughts and opinions on the initiative when they attend the forum, scheduled for Tuesday February 26th at 7pm at the Town Hall.
