Town Managers Remind Residents That No Wipes Are Flushable

By MyFM's Rick Michaels - With many of us using wipes to clean around the house or office town water departments are reminding it's residents, to not dispose of wipes or rags by trying to flush them down the toilet. The Hopkinton Water and Sewer Manager Eric Carty says he’s seeing a steep increase of wipes and rags, entering the town’s sewer system the result has been a rise in the amount of clogs at the sewer pump stations. Carty says these items need to be disposed of properly in the trash and despite claims, there is no such thing as a “flushable wipe”. He’s urging residents to refrain from flushing wipes or any foreign items not only could such action cause costly repairs by clogging the pumps and pipes it could lead to back up of sewerage into your home.
