(Courtesy of the Town Crier) - Town Manager Derek S. Brindisi announced Monday August 6, the appointment of Mark DiFronzo as Chief for the Upton Fire/EMS Department. Chief DiFronzo, is a 35-year veteran in the Fire Service and currently serves as Fire Chief for the Town of Southbridge. Selectmen Chairman GaryDaugherty said "Chief DiFronzo is a proven, leader. I appreciate his willingness to lead the dedicated men and women of the Upton Fire/EMS Department and to serve the residents of this community".
DiFronzo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Nichols College and is a certified Massachusetts paramedic. He began his career as an auxiliary firefighter in 1982 with the Dudley Fire Department and then progressed through the ranks becoming a full-time firefighter in 1988. In 1985 DiFronzo joined the Webster Rescue Squad as a Dive Team member, then became a regular member of the Squad in 1992 and was then promoted to Lieutenant in 1996. In 2002, DiFronzo accepted a position at the Southbridge Fire Department to assist the Town with its new Advanced Life Support service. His career was accelerated in Southbridge, first by being appointed EMS Coordinator, then attaining the rank of Deputy Chief in 2008 and finally leading the department in 2012 as Fire Chief.
DiFronzo holds numerous certifications such as Chief Fire Officer Management Training, Fire Officer I/II from the Massachusetts Fire Training Council/ProBoard, Fire Officer III/IV from Texas A & M Extension Program (TEEX)/ProBoard and Hazardous Materials Technician.
"Throughout his career, Chief DiFronzo has been instrumental in initiating new policies and procedures to improve organizational efficiencies and to raise professional standards throughout the departments he has served," said Town Manager Brindisi. "We are looking forward to his knowledge and experience continuing to advance our department for years to come."
Chief DiFronzo began working on August 13 for the Town of Upton.
