By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Upton Annual Town Meeting will be held tonight with residents deciding the fate of 34 articles on the warrant. The Finance Committee in a letter to voters revealed an operational budget of close to $23.8 million reflecting a 3.9% increase from Fiscal Year 2019. Fincom members found two challenging areas curbside trash and recycling, there are significant increases and the budget for the Mendon-Upton Regional School District, resulting in a 5.5% increase for the town of Upton. Voters will be asked tonight to appropriate, $200,000 into the Stabilization Fund $546,000 for improvements of town roads, an amount to supplement state Chapter 90 money and $310,000 for the design, construction and materials for repairs to the Fowler Street Bridge, money needed to kick in a state reimbursement of up to $500,000, for a project expected to cost $1 million. Upton residents will also decide whether to accept the vision for a revitalized Upton Center, developed by a group of 40 residents and business owners if approved the town would agree to move forward with the next steps to improve the center of Upton. Tonight’s Annual Town Meeting begins at seven o’clock in the auditorium of the Nipmuc Regional High School.
