By MyFM's Rick Michaels - A Special Town Meeting in Uxbridge will be held tonight, when residents will be asked to transfer about 145-thousand dollars from the stabilization account to supplement the town’s Finance Department Budget. Article 1 is asking residents to approve the money, which will fund Uxbridge Town Manager Angie Ellison’s financial recovery plan. The State’s Division of Local Services (DLS), met with town officials in early December, amid concerns about the turnover of staff in the financial departments and incomplete audits for numerous years and DLS would not certify free cash, until certain requirements were met. The transfer of money which requires a two-thirds majority vote passage, would allow the town to maintain daily financial business, complete outstanding financial reporting and pay for full-time accounting and treasurer positions at an increased pay scale. Approval will ensure the town continues to receive Chapter 70 School Aid and Chapter 90 Highway Aid. Uxbridge residents will vote on the transfer of funds tonight during a Special Town Meeting at the Valley Chapel Auditorium, beginning at seven o’clock.
