Many young men and women made sacrifices for their country during the Vietnam War. After returning home, their sacrifices were dismissed or even vilified by some of the countrymen they defended. The anguish they endured has contributed to the high rates of homelessness, drug abuse, alienation, and suicide among Vietnam Veterans. It is Vietnam the 50th Massachusetts' hope and desire, in cooperation with the Department of Defense and the gratitude of the Commonwealth and a grateful nation, to ease some of this pain.
Among the events planned is a Welcome Home Dinner on Saturday, October 29th, 2016 at the DCU Center in Worcester. Their plan is simple: they will have a formal dedication and the presentation of a Department of Defense-sponsored lapel pin to show the nation's gratitude to Vietnam Era Veterans attending. This will be followed on October 30th, 2016 with a Formal Memorial Retreat and Wreath Laying Ceremony at the State Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Green Hill Park in Worcester.
Vietnam the 50th Massachusetts, Inc. is a domestic corporation organized on June 13th, 2015 (Chapter 180)
